HISTORY
Full of history, Redland, FL is named for its red soil. For visitors the charm and subtropical climate combine to create memorable experiences you won’t find anywhere else. The first settlers to the area came in 1895 following Henry Flagler’s railroad as it cut a lifeline through South Florida.
The railroad created a ready transport for the pioneer farmers of tropical fruits and vegetables and many were willing to brave the unknown to try their luck. Daniel Roberts, Claude Jenkins and George Kosel were the first pioneers to file homestead claims in Redland and built some of the first settlements.
The pioneer community was concentrated along Redland Road and by 1912, early settlers had built several churches, a school, a small store and a town hall. Today it's a small glimpse into old Florida. RIch in original flora and native pines, it is one of the last few Agricultural areas left in South Florida.
